My question is regarding the recieving line order. What is the exact or appropriate order for the receiving line? Are children that are in the wedding supposed to be in the line?

Mother of the bride is first in line. Fathers are optional. Then the groom’s mother, followed by the groom and bride, the best man and last the maid of honor. Neither the attendants nor the children are usually in the receiving line becausee this makes the process going through the line take too long. I hope this helps!
