With the gossip mills working at maximum capacity to churn out reports about noted fashion designer Stella McCartney’s desire to create the wedding
dress for iconic starlet Scarlett Johansson, it’s unlikely that
the recently engaged actress will be left in the dark about McCartney’s intentions.
Announcing at her West Hollywood boutique cocktail party ‘I'm definitely doing her wedding dress’,
Stella McCartney quickly clarified
the statement with the additional ‘but she doesn't know it yet.’ Stay tuned, one and all, because if it’s anything like the reports of the
magnificent
dress that McCartney designed for the wedding of pop star Madonna to British film director Guy Ritchie, we’re all in for something special.
Credited with an innovative range of designer bags, designer dresses and
designer shoes, Stella McCartney is also renowned for designing
for the stars. Madonna’s gown, a strapless ivory silk number, apparently transformed
her wedding into an affair from a previous century. Complemented
with a nineteenth century lace veil and an Edwardian diamond tiara, the McCartney designed dress featured a fitted corset bodice and a long train.
For the former Chloe designer who went on to form her own
label
as part of the Gucci group in 2001, this is only one step in her meteoric rise to fame. In her collections, like those of fellow British designer
Alexander McQueen, street
elements like punk and rocker inspired styles feature prevalently, as do feminine elements such as frills and pastels. Ever diverse, Stella McCartney
has proved herself over the years to be a visionary of fashion.
But what about for Scarlett Johansson? Maybe she should be cautious of exactly what McCartney might have in mind. After her surprise announcement,
McCartney added that she was ‘thinking of some kind of dodgy, black thing. Latex! Latex for Scarlett!’
The thing is, no matter what she wears, Johansson is bound to look fabulous. Could this start a trend for black latex wedding dresses? Only time will
tell!
